The crypto news of the week

The past week has been another exciting week in the crypto space. Here is a brief overview:

Donations for Ukraine | The Airdrop

Investors are watching the war in Ukraine closely. Bitcoin remains strong around the 40,000 mark. There is much speculation that we will not just continue to extract moves from currencies like the Russian ruble.

Donations have been made in Ukraine for a week, including in crypto. After a few days, the government announced an airdrop for all donation addresses, which doubled the aid money within a short time. Ukraine has received over $55 million in crypto donations along with Bitcoin and Polkadot. This is a staggering sum compared to the United Nations (UN) $20 million.

Although the fundraiser was a smashing success, Ukraine canceled its airdrop for those who donated to the country's war effort. The Ukrainian government then announced that no own cryptocurrencies were planned, but that NFTs would be sold.

Will Bitcoin become a means of payment in Lugano?

We have a new city that will become Bitcoin (BTC), Tether (USDT) and the local token LVGA as de facto currencies in Switzerland. This was announced by the mayor of the city of Lugano, Michele Foletti, at the Plan B crypto conference last week. The aim is for all shops in Lugano to be able to accept cryptocurrencies without any problems. Lugano has already worked with over 200 merchants to drive adoption of Bitcoin and Lightning payments.
